President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reaffirmed that his administration has not introduced any new taxes since taking power and pledged further tax reductions in the upcoming Budget. Speaking at the National Convention of the National Intellectuals Organization in Colombo, he criticized past budget practices for failing to meet targets, noted that several existing taxes have already been reduced, and stated that additional tax relief will be provided.
