The Department of Motor Traffic in Colombo has launched a program to expedite public services by reducing wait times for citizens. Commissioner General Thushara Fernando stated that necessary arrangements will be made to ensure services are provided within a maximum of two and a half hours.
A 40-year-old resident of Walakumburamulla was arrested in Kandanegedara, Kuliyapitiya, with a foreign-manufactured 12-bore firearm, a live hand grenade, and six live BMG rounds. The arrest was conducted by the Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is carrying out further investigations.

The Colombo High Court has scheduled the further hearing of a corruption case against former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne for October 12. The Bribery Commission filed the case alleging Jayaratne caused a loss of Rs. 128,520 to the government by unlawfully printing 3,000 Vesak greeting cards between May 10 and June 6, 2013, while serving as the Minister of Civil Aviation.
