The Coconut Cultivation Board has allocated 2,500 million rupees (Rs. 2.5 billion) for a special subsidy program to protect coconut crops from potential El Niño conditions. Chairman Dr. Sunimal Jayakody stated that while El Niño has not affected coconut cultivation so far, prolonged dry weather in the coming months could impact crops.
