Starting in 2027, Sri Lanka's General Education Department will limit the number of subjects for the GCE Ordinary Level examination to seven, making History and Aesthetics compulsory. The reform, announced by Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya following discussions in the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Education, also introduces vocational streams for grades 10‑11, social civics and law‑and‑ethics modules for grades 12‑13, and introductory streams for grades 2 and 6.
