A 52-year-old woman, wife of a 54-year-old restaurant owner, died early Thursday at Nagoda Hospital after being seriously injured in a shooting in Nagoda, Kalutara. Police arrested a suspect in Batticaloa yesterday, and the attack was carried out by two men on a motorcycle using a T-56 assault rifle.

A Sri Lankan delegation led by the Secretary to the Treasury will travel to Bangkok to attend the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank, where discussions will focus on Sri Lanka's economic progress, stability, and future transformation plans. The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has prepared a report on proposed changes to prison rules for Buddhist monks, which will be reviewed by Mahanayake Theros. The committee responsible for updating these regulations is scheduled to submit its findings to the Presidential Secretariat for approval.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the former first lady of Sri Lanka, has been permitted to receive home-cooked meals while in remand custody at Welikada Prison's female ward. She was arrested on October 7 by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of misappropriating Rs.10 million from a state bank and remains remanded until October 13.

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sri Lanka Army marked its 77th anniversary today with a ceremony at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda, honouring its history of service and sacrifice while recognising schools that have contributed the highest numbers of personnel currently serving in the Army. COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka and China are preparing to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 75th anniversary of the Rubber-Rice Pact in 2027. Six people died in road accidents across Sri Lanka within 24 hours, including a motorcycle-truck collision in Puthur that killed a 41-year-old man and his one-year-old daughter, a motorcycle-bus crash in Weliweriya that killed a couple, and two additional fatal motorcycle-van and motorcycle-bus collisions. Police reported the incidents, which also involved an injured mother and multiple hospital transfers.
Sri Lanka Customs will require digital signatures for all customs declarations starting October 19, replacing the existing paper-based system. The paperless system began on October 1, and about 4,000 importers have already applied for digital signatures.

An appeal to commute Anojan Sivarasa’s death sentence will be filed today before the Saudi Supreme Court after his legal team traveled to Saudi Arabia to negotiate the case. COLOMBO(News 1st): The Department of Prisons states that Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was remanded in custody, has been transferred to a ward for general female inmates at the Welikada Prison. Prisons Spokesman Senaka Pallethanne stated that she was transferred to a general ward this morning after being referred to the National Eye Hospital.
