The National Child Protection Authority in Sri Lanka has received 7,647 complaints related to child abuse this year, including cases of physical and psychological abuse. The authority encourages reporting through its hotline 1929.
The Sri Lanka Navy seized approximately 81 kilograms of drugs, including over 45 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and over 35 kilograms of heroin, in the coastal area of Kusumanthurai in Madagal, Jaffna. A suspect was apprehended, a vessel suspected of being used for smuggling was taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Sri Lanka's Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka announced that 1,513 MW of solar power capacity has been added to the national grid between last year and August 2026, with 1,141.1 MW from rooftop solar and 370 MW from ground-mounted installations.
Sri Lanka has officially granted protected status to 20 forests covering a total land area of 9,538.68 hectares across multiple districts, adding to approximately 65,000 hectares declared as reserves over the past two years. Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi highlighted that the initiative aims to safeguard biodiversity, protect watershed areas, mitigate human-elephant conflict, conserve high-altitude forests, and foster eco-tourism. Additionally, a Forest Conservation Museum was opened at the Sandathenna Forestry Institute in Nuwara Eliya to advance environmental education and research.
