COLOMBO (News 1st); Security around Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena has been strengthened following the receipt of a letter containing an alleged death threat. The letter in question was received on August 11.
A flydubai commercial flight, on its way from Dubai to Tel Aviv, sent two distress signals, one of which was related to a possible hijacking of the aircraft. It emerged later that the incident on Wednesday was caused by a fight between the pilots of FZ1073.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa was granted bail by the Fort Magistrate's Court in a money laundering case related to the Airbus aircraft procurement deal, subject to cash bail of Rs. 500,000, two surety bails of Rs. 100 million each, and a foreign travel ban imposed by Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. Despite receiving bail in this case, Rajapaksa remains in remand custody until October 13 due to a separate bribery case before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court concerning allegations of receiving a Rs. 100 million bribe.

Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ordered the forfeiture of two bail bonds totaling Rs. 40 million posted on behalf of Priyanka Niyomali, the wife of former SriLankan Airlines executive Kapila Chandrasena, as she is believed to be overseas evading court proceedings in the Airbus Scandal case. The bonds were furnished by former Sri Lankan cricket captain Aravinda de Silva and his wife Priyangi Niyomali Wijenayake. The court ordered the sureties to pay Rs. 20 million immediately and the remaining Rs. 20 million on October 17, while warrants remain active for Niyomali's arrest.

The Court of Appeal dismissed, without a hearing, a writ petition filed by Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera.
