A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding a vocational training and student exchange program in South Korea is scheduled to be signed today. Sri Lankan Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe traveled to South Korea for the ceremony. Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya arrived at V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda. She was welcomed by Michael Joseph, the country's Minister for Health, Wellness, the Environment and Public Service. The summit, themed "Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth," runs until November 6 with participation from 56 member countries. The National Dengue Control Unit is launching a special dengue control program across 74 Medical Officer of Health divisions in 13 districts from November 9 to 14. The initiative is based on increased entomological data, with approximately 105,500 dengue cases and 79 deaths reported islandwide so far.
A Bahamas-bound Learjet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, killing all nine people on board after the pilot reported severe icing, turbulence, and overspeed, leading to an emergency descent. The crash, the second deadliest US aviation disaster this year, created a large debris field near Cresthaven, about nine miles from Mar‑a‑Lago, and displaced around 600 residents due to blocked access to a mobile home park. Authorities have not yet identified the victims, and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called the incident a "horrific tragedy."
